Install wordpress before pointing your domain

Install wordpress before pointing your domain

So you signed up for a new hosting to your website, your website is still hosted elsewhere with some old content and you want to build your website using Wordpress before pointing the domain to our server, here is how you can do it.

1. Locate your temp url:

You can access your hosting space before pointing the domain to our server using TEMP URL, its in form You can find server host name in your admin area under 'advanced' tab, and the user name under cPanel tab.

If your server host name is s82.etcserver.com and your user name is gooduser then your TEMP URL is:

http://s82.etcserver.com/~gooduser/

2. Install Wordpress:

Install Wordpress as usual from your cPanel > Softacolous App Installer.

3. Modify wordpress configuration

Locate the wordpress configuration file in /public_html/wp-config.php you can use the File Manager in cPanel to locate and edit the file

copy paste this 2 lines at the end of the file (remember to use the corret TEMP URL)

define('WP_HOME','http://s82.etcserver.com/~gooduser/');
define('WP_SITEURL','http://s82.etcserver.com/~gooduser/');

Save the file and you are ready to see your wordpress website:

http://s82.etcserver.com/~gooduser/

and edit it:

http://s82.etcserver.com/~gooduser/wp-admin

Once you finished your work, you can remove the 2 lines you added to wp-config file in step 3 and Wordpress will work from your domain name.
